Politics affect you
Around the Clock

If you go to school - the teachers, buildings, and equipment are controlled by the Board of Education, whom you elect.

As you go to work - the safety standards of your workplace are set by OSHA, a labor division of the Department of Labor, whose director is appointed by the President.

If you are hurt on the job or laid off - the benefits you may receive are set by State Legislators, whom you elect.

As you get out of bed - the contents of your mattress were regulated by the Federal Bureau of Standards, a bureau controlled by Congress, whom you elect.

As you shut off the alarm and turn on you lights - the rates you pay for electricity have been approved by your Public Service Commission, whom you either directly or indirectly elect.

As you are driving - your gas taxes are set by State and Federal officials, whom you elect. The roads you travel on are controlled by a highway commission, which is appointed by the Governor, whom you elect.

As you return home - the taxes you pay for you home are set by local or state officials, whom you elect.

The air you breathe, the water you drink, and the land around you - all are controlled by the Environmental Protection Agency, whose director is appointed by the President.
